New York State Historical Records Advisory Board

What is the New York State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB)?

A thirteen member independent advisory board of citizens appointed by the Commissioner of Education to provide advice on how to develop strong programs for the identification, preservation, and use of New York's historical materials.

Mission:

The New York State Historical Records Advisory Board is required by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) , the funding arm of the National Archives , to provide coordinated planning and oversight for Federal grants to New York State. Its mission is to assist, support, coordinate and advocate for the identification, collection, preservation, management accessibility, use and accessibility of records that document all of New York's peoples, communities, organizations, businesses, and governments.

Vision:

The historical records of all New York's people are identified, collected, preserved, maintained, made available to and used by New Yorkers to increase their knowledge of the history and cultures of this extraordinarily diverse state and to ensure their rights.
