New York State Archives Awards
Each year the New York Board of Regents and the New York State Archives honor individuals, programs and organizations working with historical records in the state. The awards are given in the fall at a luncheon with the Regents in the rotunda of the State Education Department building. The Regents give awards for excellence in the following categories:
- Historical Records Repository Programs
- Documenting New York’s History – The Debra E. Bernhardt Annual Archives Award
- Local Government Archival Program Development – The William H. Kelly Annual Archives Award
- State Agency Records Management
- State Agency Archival Program Development
- Local Government Records Management – The Cheryl Steinbach Annual Archives Award
- Local Historian of the Year
- Educational Use of Local Government Records by a Local Government
- Educational Use of Local Government Records by an Educator – The Bruce W. Dearstyne Archives Award
- Advocacy – The William Hoyt Advocacy Award
- Research Using the Holdings of the State Archives
- Student Research – Award of Distinction
- Student Research Using Historical Records – The Laura and Robert Chodos Awards for grades 4-12
