Workplan for 2002-2003

  1. Meetings:

  • Conduct three meetings of the full State Board each year.
  1. Advocacy:

  • Undertake meetings and contacts with leadership of State Education Department to encourage support of Rediscovering New York's History and Culture budget initiative to support historical records programs in New York.
  • Co-sponsor with New York Library Association, Museum of Association of New York and Office of Cultural Education (State Education Department) meeting on Leadership and Advocacy, May 17, 2002.
  1. Documentation of New York's history:

  • Apply for NHPRC regrant to provide additional funding to support documentation priorities: mental health, environmental affairs, Latino communities, and World Trade Center.
  • Make products of NHPRC-funded documentation pilot project widely available through SHRAB website and publication.
  1. Access to historical records:

  • Provide oversight for NEH-funded project to test development of a collaborative virtual collection of resources from New York's historical records repositories in the area of environmental affairs. (Project funded for October 2002-September 2004).
  • Submit application to IMLS for development of an enhanced directory of historical records repositories and museums in New York State to improve access to both records and artifacts. (Application submitted February 2002)
  1. Grant application review:

  • Review applications submitted to NHPRC by New York repositories.
