The engine range largely echoes the Peugeot 208's, but the power outputs are higher to compensate for more weight and size: the entry-level 2008 has 99bhp, the mid-range variant has 128bhp. We recommend the 129bhp 1.2-litre PureTech 130 engine in the Peugeot 2008 because it strikes the best balance between cost and performance. Pairing that with Allure Premium trim keeps the price.

This first-generation Peugeot 2008 was one of the first to have a go at the lucrative small SUV market. It took the popular 208 hatchback, added an additional '0' in the middle of the name. The Peugeot 2008 scores well for its efficient engines, comfortable interior and smart styling. In other words, it's a terrific all-rounder. Excellent 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine, more spacious and practical than the 208, post-facelift version looks smart. Pre-facelift cars are best avoided, not exactly memorable to drive, unusual.
